Excerpt

Moya’s eyes widened when I spun her around to face me. It was obvious what I was about to do and I knew very well she wouldn’t let it happen without a fight. Her attempts at being freed were futile as my hold increased the more she squirmed in my arms.

“Let go!” she demanded.

I blew hard, eager to drown myself in the sweetness of her lips. Dismissing her protest—and the little voice at the back of my head telling me not to—I shoved my mouth to hers and kissed her hungrily.

Moya lifted her hands to my chest and pushed tentatively, and just as fast they began to lower. I knew she couldn’t resist the deep passion evoking between us. Finally, she yielded, and I wrapped my arms even tighter around her as Moya parted her lips and allowed me to enter.

We groaned as our tongues collided, touching each other wildly as if the kiss was not only our first but our last. Moya placed her hands on my lower back, touching me sensually with her fingertips as she worked her way up my spine. She caressed the back of my neck, and then combed her fingers seductively through my hair.

By the time the kiss ended, we were both panting, trying to breathe steadily.

Moya wobbled as she backed away. “I have to get to class,” she whispered shakily as if under a trance.

I released her with regret and watched as Moya turned and started up the path, staggering along the way.

Afterwards, I dragged my thumb lightly along my lips, eyes fastened on Moya as she walked away. I could still feel the heat of her skin on mine, giving light to a fire of pleasure that threatened to make my hands shake in memory of her taste.

Motivated by the promise of her presence, I walked up the path as well, following behind the girl I was indisputably falling hard for and fast.

Trisha Wolfe’s THE DARKEST PART

18142113

Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love.

Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. But after a hit-and-run leaves her in ruin, she begins seeing Tyler’s fractured, ghostly presence, and her family believes she’s losing her mind. Not until she completes their journey, stopping along the way to scatter Tyler’s remains, will Tyler be able cross over. Only…is Sam ready for him to leave her?

When the black sheep of the Marks’ family, Holden Marks, returns to check on Tyler’s case, Sam convinces him to give her his brother’s ashes. Despite their shaky history, she needs him…plus, he owes it to Sam and his brother. What she doesn’t count on is Holden’s relentlessness to go on the trip.

On the road, Holden realizes just how unhinged Sam has become. Dealing with her psychosis forces him to confront his dark past, making it harder to keep secrets hidden that should remain buried. Especially from Sam, the only woman he’s ever loved. And as Sam starts to unravel the truth, she begins to question if the brother she’s unwillingly falling for again is in an even darker place than her.

GREED (Book 2 in the Seven Deadly Series) Synopsis:

Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours…because that’s what I do. I want.

I’m Spencer Blackwell…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Prologue

Greed is a strange, strange sin.

All you want to do is acquire. Acquire money, acquire material, acquire time, acquire energy, acquire attention. The running mantra is “I want, I want, I want” but that quickly turns to “I need, I need, I need.”
Suddenly there just isn’t enough time for friends, for family, for anyone. Your goal is to acquire and to make sure what you acquire stays acquired. Your life depends on it. You don’t see truth because the truth is shadowed by enormous homes, incredibly fast cars, in lavish spending. Your life no longer belongs to you, but you are blind to it all because those around you are seeking the same.

So you shuffle along at an impossible rate, and you pass the real world around you.

But what you’ll come to realize, altogether too late, is that it’s never enough. It’s simply never enough.

Chapter One

“It’s confirmed. Peter Knight of Evergreen won’t approve the acquisition. You know what to do,” my snake of a father told me, not two steps into his front door.

“I just got off a seven-hour flight. You can’t let me settle in? Possibly say hello?”

He stood, watching me, a slight tick in his square jaw. He tucked his hands into his Italian silk pants. His six-foot frame followed the steps up to the foyer and stopped a few inches away from my own. We were face to face. Although I fell an inch shorter, he no longer intimidated me. I knew if I had to, I could kick his ass.

“Hello, Spencer,” he said, a serpent’s smile spread wide across his mouth before falling flat. “Get to work. I don’t pay you to sit around. I don’t care if it is your Christmas break.”

We stayed where we were, each waiting on the other to back down. The tension was palpable. In the end, his face relaxed and he began to chuckle, stepping aside and making way for me. I picked up my bags and headed for my room, giving myself plenty of space to pass him without touching him.
When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I changed my mind and threw my bags on the second to last step, intending to pick them up later. I stretched my muscles, loving the feel of my back popping, and started for the kitchen.

“Where the hell do you think you’re going?” he asked, still standing in the foyer, watching my every move.

“If I don’t say hi to Mom and Bridge, they’ll think something’s up,” I told him and continued on.

He didn’t respond, but I felt his stare burning into the back of my head.

Short Excerpt REVIVING IZABEL (In the Company of Killers #2)

 RI_FULLJACKET_medium2

Check out the new excerpt from J.A. Redmerski’s Reviving Izabel –> Short Excerpt REVIVING IZABEL.

Can’t trust anybody,” I say, looking at nothing.

“No, you can’t,” Victor says and I look up, detecting a hidden meaning behind his words. “Now maybe you can understand why I don’t get close to anyone. It’s not just the job, Sarai, people generally cannot be trusted. Especially in my profession where trust is such a rarity that it’s not worth wasting the time and effort searching for it.”

“But you seem to trust Fredrik,” I point out, looking up at him from the couch. “Why’d you bring me here, of all places? Didn’t you learn your lesson with Samantha?”

His expression darkens, stung by my accusation.

“I never said I trusted Fredrik. That is still up in the air. But right now, Fredrik is my only connection inside the Order and for the past seven months he has done nothing to indicate he is untrustworthy. Quite the opposite, he’s done everything to prove that he is.”

“But that doesn’t make it true,” I say.

“No, you’re right, but soon enough I’ll know one hundred percent if Fredrik can be trusted, or not.”

“How so?”

“You’ll find out when I do,” he says.

“Why bother? You just said that trust is so rare it’s not worth the effort.”

“You ask a lot of questions.”

“Yeah, I guess I do. And you don’t answer enough of them.”

“No, I guess I don’t.” He smiles faintly and it melts my heart into a puddle of mush.

I look away from his eyes and swallow down my feelings.

“I’m not safe here,” I say looking back up at him.

“You’re not safe anywhere,” he says. “But as long as you’re with me, nothing will happen to you.”

“Now who’s full of shit?”

He raises an eyebrow.

“You’re not my hero, remember?” I remind him. “You’re not the other half of my soul who could never let anything bad ever happen to me. Trust my instincts first always, and you, if I choose, last. You said that to me once.”

“And it’s still as true today as it was then,” he says.

“Then how can you say nothing will happen to me if I’m with you?”

His expression becomes vacant as if for the first time in his life someone has rendered him speechless. I gaze across the room into his quiet and emotionless face, only his eyes revealing a trace of numbness. I get the feeling that he spoke before thinking, that he expressed something to me that he truly feels but never wanted me to know: he wants to be my ‘hero’, he will do anything and everything in his power to keep me safe, he wants me to trust him fully.

I do.

He walks back over and sits down beside me. The smell of his cologne faint as if he makes it a point to use as little as possible. It makes my head swim with need. I have longed to feel his touch again, to taste his warm lips, to let him ravage me the way he did a few nights before we last saw each other. I’ve thought of nothing but Victor for the past eight months of my life. While sleeping. Eating. Watching television. Having sex. Masturbating. Breathing. Every single thing I have done since he left me in that hospital with Dina, has been with him in mind.

“Do you think Fredrik will tell Niklas where we are?” I change the subject for fear of breaking into him too much too soon.

“I think if he was going to do that,” he says, “he would have told Niklas the little he did know about your whereabouts a long time ago and Niklas would have tried to kill you already.”

“There’s something…off about Fredrik. Don’t you sense it?”

Victor reaches up and touches my wet hair. The gesture causes my heart to speed up.

“You have a good sense of people, Sarai,” he says as his hand moves to my chin. “You’re right about Fredrik…,” the pad of his thumb brushes my bottom lip. A shiver races between my legs. “He is…shall I say…unhinged in a sense.”

My breathing picks up and I feel my lashes sweep my face when Victor’s lips fall upon mine.

“Unhinged in what way,” I ask breathily when he pulls back. With my eyes closed, I sense his scanning the curvature of my face and my lips, and I feel the breath emitting softly from his nostrils onto my face.

Every miniscule hair stands on end when his other hand pushes up my thigh and finds my naked waist underneath the shirt. His long fingers dance against the flesh of my hipbone and then rest there.

I open my eyes to see him staring back into mine.

“Is something wrong?” he asks and his mouth sweeps mine again.

“No, I…I just didn’t expect this.”

“Expect what?” I feel his fingers fit behind the elastic of my panties.

My head is swimming, my stomach a fluttering, nervous ball of muscle. “This,” I answer, my eyes opening and closing. “You’re different,” I add softly.

“That’s your fault,” he says and then his lips devour mine.

He pushes my body back against the couch pillows and falls between my legs.

My Review

Reckless is an interesting story. First I need to give fair warning…if you’re not Australian the verbiage in the book might be a bit difficult to comprehend, but you catch on after time. I didn’t understand some of the slang, but I read the book and enjoyed it just fine. I did really enjoy the book, but it dragged a bit in the beginning. The story is about nineteen year old Milly. She’s suffered a terrible loss and it’s that loss that’s made her into a careless, reckless girl. I actually felt she was much more careless than reckless. She  has a terrible attitude and doesn’t hold herself accountable for anything. She blames everyone and everything else without ever really looking at the part she plays in the decisions she makes. The big problem I had with this story was her online interaction with a stranger, she shared photos and even allowed him to come visit and become a part of her life knowing very little about him. Her family just accepted it and didn’t intervene until much later. I felt like if I ever attempted anything like that under my parents household that would never fly but hey to each his own. It’s still an interesting read and made me think about how Milly really saw herself to allow some of the people she did into her life as easily as she did. The book gets really good halfway through. I know it seems like a lot to get through but I felt it was worth it. Milly is a very angry and lost individual. She’s having a terrible time adjusting and keeps finding trouble at every turn until her parents finally intervene sending her to live with her aunt until she can sort her shit out. This experience becomes the first of many life changing moments for Milly. This was a great read. I loved Jerome and his influence on Milly’s life. I loved her aunt and the boys and even Sheila. They all helped MIlly to make better decisions at some point or another. I won’t give too much away about Jerome because I feel like his role is one that might give too much of the storyline away. I recommend it for Mature Young Adult and New Adult fans.

62435-addtogoodreads

My Review

Tattoo Thief is an interesting read. Books like this remind me why I love doing this. I’ve read a handful of books within the last few months that have done an excellent job walking the reader through a phenomenal courtship. The author executes this perfectly in Tattoo Thief. The best parts of this book are watching these characters grow, individually and together. The romance isn’t built over night and the build up is remarkable and all via email which I seriously loved. I know it is unconventional, but enjoyable.

This story is about two people who are lost. Two people who are searching for the right path to follow.

Beryl is from a small town in Oregon afraid she’ll be stuck in a dead end job resenting everything and everyone in her life if she doesn’t find a way out. She doesn’t know what to do until an opportunity to leave Oregon and head to NYC presents itself. While Beryl is excited she’s afraid she made the wrong decision and talks herself in and out of accepting the offer before she finally settles on leaving. When she arrives in NY things spiral out of control and her plan falls apart leaving her to fend for herself. Just as she begins to lose hope another opportunity presents itself, throwing her into a world she’s never imagined, one that brings her closer to Tattoo Thief’s frontman Gavin Slater.

Gavin is out of the country running from his own demons. Beryl is an ear to listen, but she doesn’t make it easy for him. She challenges him and they grow closer, but their communication is limited to email. Their correspondence bonds them in a way they could never have imagined and Beryl slowly finds herself caring for Gavin as more than a friend. Can two people who are so different and so far apart actually find a common ground? Can this ever be more than email tag?

I found this book incredibly interesting. Being a native New Yorker I really enjoyed reading how a transplant took in the city. Beryl’s experiences and her transition from rural life to a bustling metropolis is interesting. I never really think about how a newbie’s experience may differ from someone who is a native. I never realized how many things we take for granted or simply never considered how different the experience of an outsider could be. I didn’t like some of the comments made about New York, but that’s just my own NYC pride haha. It definitely put things in perspective. I enjoyed seeing Beryl grow and thrive. The relationship she built with Gavin through email is impressive and though I wished there was more face time I think it was cleverly executed. It goes to show how much trust you can build with someone through correspondence alone. They go back and forth a lot and its comfortable. The fact that they are essentially strangers seems to give them both free reign to openly disclose things most people wouldn’t off the bat. I think that aspect in particular is something that people may or may not understand, but I felt it allowed them to speak candidly. Each felt free of judgment though after time they cared more and more about the others opinion. The heaviness of Gavin’s departure sits with you and while Beryl remains honest with him, she remains supportive. She isn’t afraid to point out his flaws or bring him back to reality when his ego gets in the way. This is a fun and refreshing read. I enjoyed it and hopefully you will too. I’d recommend this to my New Adult/Rock Star loving fans.

There were a number of things I really enjoyed about Beryl’s actions throughout the book but one event in particular stuck out and I think it deserves mention. Beryl handled herself with exceptionally well and I really enjoyed how she handles Peter – when you get there you’ll understand!

Random Rant…

You guys know I spend most of my time reading and writing reviews on books I think are worth a read. Every now and again I come across something incredible, but too often than not I get books I just can’t get into or find are not well written. Now, I’m not here to bash anyone in particular. I won’t point fingers or throw names out. I just simply need to rant a little. I normally utilize this website for positive feedback, BUT I will not lie to you guys and say I love everything I read…you couldn’t pay me to do so. If something sucks…well, it just sucks and I won’t use my name to back something I consider shit. I am working on getting a list of full reviews together but as you know this is a long and tedious process that I hope to complete sometime soon. Now, if you want to see the good, the bad, and the ugly go to my Goodreads page for some examples. LOL.

Wait, you’re still not on goodreads? Are you serious?

Join —–> HEREDo it now! I’m obsessed and if you’re anything like me you will be hooked.

Here goes my rant

1. If you write a romance and your characters fall in love in the first chapter…I am done with you and your book most likely sucks.

2. If you spend the entire book writing cheesy cliche lines…your book definitely sucks.

3. If your book has the line, “I let out the breath I didn’t realize I was holding,” or something similar I will dislike your book for lack of creativity, but I honestly can’t say your book sucks because I’ve read a few great books that have had that line or something similar. I am just tired of reading those particular words. (see #2…yeah it bothers me that much!)

4. Develop your characters!!! Make them interesting and make the reader fall in love with them. If you move too quickly into the plot without allowing us time to get to know your characters and reasons we should love them, I’ll go out on a limb and say…your book probably sucks.

5. Why is every character good looking? I’m not saying that people want to read about not so good looking people, but come on not everyone is drop dead gorgeous! A hint of reality won’t hurt your book.

6. I’m a book whore so I enjoy smexy books, but come on let’s get a little substance with the storylines  If you’re strictly erotica, don’t claim to be a romance or contemporary book. I give credit where its due, but only if it fits the genre. If you have no story and all sex, but claim to be an erotica you are completely up front about your smut. I applaud you and will probably love your book. It’s the books that fool me into believing there is a good story behind it that unnerve me. Sometimes you just want a smutty read and that’s ok, but don’t make me think I’m in for the story of my life…it won’t work.

7. Grammar, grammar, grammar….no further explanation necessary…actually, get an editor to try and fix you’re horrible grammar.

8. Laugh at yourself, accept constructive criticism and build on it. I’ve read some amazing books by some amazing authors, but I think everyone needs to be able to do this especially writers. Not everything is going to be a masterpiece, if someone gives constructive negative feedback, try to understand their point whether you believe it’s valid or not.

9. Get creative, please stop making me read books that all sound the same. I need something fresh and unique. I’ve made a complaint already about how similar a lot of New Adult books are beginning to sound, I love the genre but so many stories have similar plots that it all seems the same at this point.

In the middle of the woods. But Honor didn’t go down there alone.

She took her kidnapper’s phone with her. With a spotty signal and a dying battery, her hope is slim.

Nathan Reed is an active duty Marine stationed at a small reserve base in Pennsylvania. All he wants is a calm and uneventful duty station where he can forget the memories of his time in a war-torn country.

But a single text changes everything.

Nathan becomes Honor’s only hope for survival, and he has to go against the clock, push aside his past, and take on a mission for a girl he’s never met.
