Book Review: Stealing Rose (The Fowler Sisters, #2) by Monica Murphy

StealingRoseBR

22544091

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—the second novel in New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy’s sizzling series about three powerhouse sisters and the men who would have their hearts.
People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.

Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.

For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.

[yasr_overall_rating size=”medium”]

*This was an ARC provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.*

Stealing Rose is the second book in The Fowler Sisters series by Monica Murphy and follows the youngest Fowler sister Rose. I’ll be honest with you, when I first attempted to read Owning Violet I couldn’t get into it. I tried on three different occasions and each time I ended up putting the book down. I don’t know why because the story isn’t bad, the writing is engaging and steamy as hell. I just for some reason couldn’t get into it. Finally, one day I sat down opened it up and I swear it was like I picked up a different book and I completely devoured it. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood…I still have no clue what it was, but in the end I did enjoy the first book in the series which made me continue with the series. Stealing Rose is incredibly hot! Boy did I have to fan myself a few times. Not only does this story deliver Rose’s romantic struggles, but also keeps up  a bit with areas of Violet’s life (allowing the reader to keep up with some of their favorite characters). Monica Murphy continues the series in dual POV which I absolutely adore.

I loved everything about Stealing Rose. The chemistry between Caden and Rose made my Kindle spark! Talk about steamy! I’m still blushing and fanning myself. I definitely enjoyed Rose’s story a bit more than Owning Violet, but I have officially fell in love with the series after this read. Caden meets Rose in Cannes and there is an immediate attraction between the two. One that is undeniable. Rose is going through a reflective stage, she’s trying to figure out her place in the Fowler family and within their family’s empire, Fleur Cosmetics. She feels underappreciated and due to recent developments her relationship with her father has turned sour. Enter Caden, a cup of tall, dark and handsome. He brings out the absolute best and worst in Rose. He pushes her buttons and drives her crazy in so many ways, but she can’t help the pull she feels to him. He makes Rose feel alive and frisky. She’s having fun and learning about herself in the process, but how much does she really know about him? Will his secret tear them apart or bring them closer together?

I couldn’t put this one down. What drew me into this series is how real these “heiress” characters feel. They’re wealthy, but they work their butts off to keep their family business running. They aren’t arrogant or greedy and Monica Murphy has made them “human.” You connect with them without feeling like they’re these privileged princesses. You can see that they all care for each other a great deal in their own ways. Violet annoyed me a bit in this book she was a bit judgmental and a bit of a hypocrite, but I understood and liked that at one point she’s called out on it.  It’s actually a breath of fresh air to read about three sisters like Rose, Violet and Lily. After reading Stealing Rose, I cannot wait for Lily’s story. You are in for a treat with an ending that will tear you up in the best possible way.

I highly recommend this read to Erotica/Erotic Romance fans.
Happy Reading Lovelies xo

Review

*This was an ARC provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.*

I am never disappointed with anything Jessica Park produces. I definitely have to start by saying this book is a total mindfuck. I felt like I was tripping at times. It is bold and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The storyline is original and the characters are unique. Prepare yourself to be impressed by a new side of Jessica Park.  There is an element of darkness yet something so incredibly beautiful about this novel. I spent a good portion of this read saying, “Fuck,” “Holy Shit” and “OMG.” I’m pretty sure I even had to pick my jaw up a few times, but I loved every minute of it! Actually, I couldn’t put it down. In truth, I wondered to myself a few times “WTF am I reading,” but in a,”wow did that really just happen” way. There are so many layers to this novel and I’m being my usual evil self by giving minimal information, but I do believe this is a book you just need to read and experience on your own.

I fell in love with Sam, I hurt with Stella, and I desperately tried to understand Costa. Each element of this story is like a piece of a puzzle. There is no way to really prepare for what you will experience reading Clear. It is unrestrained, unpredictable and quite frankly A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Jessica Park impresses the reader with her literary genius pushing boundaries and drawing the reader into one of the most cleverly crafted worlds I’ve ever experienced. The emotions you’ll experience while reading Clear will make you feel as though you have stepped into this book and become one of these characters. You will walk with them through every struggle, every hurt and every triumph. All the love, resentment, anger and sadness that they feel will slowly seep its way into your core forever branding you. This unforgettable, incredible story will consume you. I devoured it. Clear is erotic, intense and utterly addictive. It will mess with your mind and test your limits. It may even freak you out a bit at times, but it is sure to be a mind blowing ride. I was absolutely spellbound and I have no doubt you will be too. Fingers crossed for more Death Tripper novels!!!

This book can be classified under many genres and I can’t say that it falls under any one category, but I would highly recommended it to New Adult and Paranormal Romance fans. BTW – There is no cliffhanger, I just want more. LOL.

EXCERPT

“So this is where you work?” She gestures at the closed kitchen door behind me as she approaches.
I step back so she can enter the courtyard then glance over my shoulder. “It’s more like the place where I help out in the kitchen, occasionally,” I say. “I like to cook so sometimes the owner, Jake, let’s me jump on the line.”
She tilts her head. “I wouldn’t have pegged you as the cooking type.”
“No?” I arch a brow. “What type am I?”
“Well the professional lover type, obviously.”
I grin. “That too.”
The teasing in her eyes along with the lightness of her smile does something soft to my insides. This is a different Kayla than the one I was sitting next to at the bar. That girl was stressed and burdened, but this girl… this girl is hopeful and happy.
The only reason I can think of for the change in her tone is the inheritance. Does the idea of getting money please her so much that she’s suddenly this cheerful person? Does it please me that much?
I remember Jake’s comment earlier, about my being happy, and realize with a sinking feeling that yes, the idea of an inheritance has made me happy. Money would alleviate some of my problems and, therefore, it gives me a security in my future that pleases me.
I’m not sure how I feel about money having so much control over my contentment. It makes me sound an awful lot like my dad.
“So what is this place?” she asks, nodding to the courtyard around us.
I look up at the small twinkle lights strung above the area. “Right now it’s just storage space. But Jake wants to make it into a dining patio. You know, so people can rent it out for private parties or whatever.”
“It’s cute.” She walks around, checking out the rose bushes that line the fence and the Tuscany-inspired mural painted against the back wall.
“So where you off to?” I step closer so we’re both beside the painted wall. “Back to your humble abode at the Quickie Stop?”
She scoffs. “Humble indeed. But yeah.”
I glance at the dark parking lot beyond the fence and the even darker streets that lead to the edge of town, and frown. “By yourself?”
She faces me with a cocked eyebrow. “Yeah. I’ve got my own driver’s license and everything.”
I smile at the ground. “Okay, that’s fair.” I glance at the dark streets again. “I’m just a concerned citizen that wanted to make sure you got home safely. That’s all.”
She nods. “How very kind of you, citizen. Would you rather I be going back to the Quickie Stop with someone?”
The idea of Kayla going home with someone—anyone, other than me—rakes down my spine like nails on a chalkboard. I don’t know when I got so possessive of this girl but holy hell. My veins are on fire.
How very unexpected. And somewhat annoying.
I don’t get possessive of women. Ever. Sure, I care about Amber and Pixie but that’s different. I care about them like sisters. I’m protective of them. I couldn’t really give a damn who they, or any other female in this town, go to bed with.
But Kayla?
Hot jealousy darts through my veins.
How very annoyingly unexpected.
I set my shoulders back in a casual manner. “Not particularly,” I say coolly. “I just wasn’t sure if you had a ride or not.”
“Oh.” She runs a finger over her lips. “And what, you were going to offer me a ride?”
I watch the tip of her finger skim over the pink fullness of her bottom lip and my breath hitches. She can’t say things like “give me a ride” and touch her mouth at the same time. That’s just not fair.
“Well I might have offered you a ride,” I say, inwardly cursing as I remember sweet, precious Monique, “except I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to take rides from strangers. And since that’s what you and I are…” I sigh dramatically. “It would have just been a waste of time to ask you.”
She smiles behind her moving fingers and I start to wonder if she’d let me kiss her. My guess is, yes. Maybe.
I want to kiss Kayla. Badly. But the idea of kissing her, of touching her at all, also makes me a little nervous. And I’m never nervous when it comes to women.
Goddammit. Everything about this girl is unexpected.
“You’re so obsessed with us not being strangers,” she says, and her eyes shine. “That can’t be healthy.”
I probably shouldn’t kiss her. We have an inheritance to claim tomorrow. We have shit to follow through with. Kissing her is a bad idea. A very bad idea.
“No. Probably not.” I step closer so we’re only inches apart. “But I can’t seem to let it go.”
She doesn’t move away. She doesn’t break eye contact.
Yes. She’d definitely let me kiss her. I’m sure of it.
My heart pounds and it’s all I can do to keep my nonchalant demeanor in place.
“Is that what we are, Kayla?” I lower my voice with a crooked grin. “Strangers?”
She meets my crooked grin and raises me a tipped chin. Her eyes are steel and sure, not giving anything away, and I suddenly feel unsure.
I lean in.
She doesn’t react. But she also doesn’t back away.
Kissing her is a bad idea.
Her lips part, ever so slightly, a thin seam of wet flesh forming between the soft skin of her pretty lips, and all my reservations vanish.

“What do you mean?”
“My heart is all cut up, baby girl. Part of my heart died when my father died. And part of it is wrecked from my past.”
My own heart aches at hearing his words. I can feel his pain.
“My heart’s all parceled up, too,” I remind him.

Review

Most readers and authors alike are familiar with Wattpad. If you aren’t you’re missing out on some amazing reads. I suggest signing up here and navigating the website, there are some true gems. I’ve had Wattpad for a while, though I never really used it much. One day while scrolling through the app on my phone I came across a book by someone called Blondeanddangerous. Anyhow, I was like who’s this and what’s this book The Curves Ahead about, so I clicked and started reading. Then I realized I was on chapter 5…clearly nothing was going to get done until I finished this book.  So I made some coffee, sat my ass down and curled up on my sofa to continue reading this gem that had coincidentally captured my attention.
Reading The Curves Ahead was like stepping into a magical land filled with fairies and unicorns…ok maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but this book is amazing. I am still reveling in its awesomeness (yes, I said awesomeness). I love, love, loved it! The protagonist is one you will love and the journey she takes is both inspirational and eye opening. The author does an incredible job taking real world issues —- judgements, thoughts and struggles we all face and allows the reader to absorb current events and Evianna’s dilemmas and how they relate. In a way, this book may help you chase your own demons and face them head on. I really loved this story and how engulfed in these characters I became. I rooted for Evianna through every hurdle, every disappointment, every achievement, every regret. I laughed, I cried (seriously ugly tears) and I swooned. Through it all I was not left disappointed. The story is captivating and there is something everyone can relate to. It is a book about living, loving and learning. It is about growth and knowing yourself; being able to love and accept yourself and being able to put positive energy back into the world to gain love in return. Although there were some really heartbreaking moments, I loved every minute of this journey. The reality is, people face issues on a daily basis, Evianna’s story only reinforced a message of acceptance and finding your own path through every storm and hurdle thrown your way finding a way to come out on top. This is a beautiful story that every reader should read. I cannot stress how much I loved this story. I hope you will too.

Isn’t it a marvelous thought that everything in your entire life has led up to you being here, at this exact moment?

It is. But you could say that about being anywhere at any particular moment, couldn’t you?

He winked. “You could. That’s what makes every moment special: you are exactly where you’re meant to be.”

Review

[yasr_overall_rating size=”medium”]

Love changes a person. It doesn’t make us inferior, but it lets us be the person we were truly meant to be. It completes us, brings out our true nature, and helps us become a better version of ourselves.”

Chelle stated that this was one of her hardest books to write, but I have to say I think she hit this one out of the park. I love the Gallo men (and of course Izzy and the gals), but I had been dying to hear Thomas’ story. For so long, he was this absentee brother and with each book, my interest in Thomas only increased…’curiouser and curiouser.’ My curiosity was finally appeased when I received an ARC of Uncover Me. I was not disappointed. I’m still  fanning myself from this steamy read. So listen, this book is definitely a bit different than the other Men of Inked books, HOWEVER, it is just as steamy and just as engaging. This one is what I like to call smut with substance.
After living a dangerous and crime filled life can Blue ever go back to being Thomas Gallo or will he be forever tainted? This book had me hooked from the minute I started reading. I’ll admit there are some cheesy moments, (sorry Chelle I mean that in the best way possible), but I loved them just as I have loved the entire Men of Inked series. The thing I love the most about the series that I repeatedly point out is these characters seem so normal. They seem real, like you might know one of them, be related to one of them or even had an encounter with a loving and loyal family like the Gallos. They make you want to step into this world with them and never let go. Uncover Me is steamy in a hot damn I need to fan myself sort of way. HAHA. Trust me on this…you’ll see.

Chelle did an excellent job pulling the reader into Thomas’ life with the Sun Devils MC . Uncover Me is steamy, sweet and suspenseful. She blends the lives of Thomas Gallo and Blue creating the perfect recipe for a hot brooding alpha male. You can feel Thomas’ passion, his unease, his happiness, his regrets; every emotion he radiates engages the reader as though they are living through this nightmare alongside him. I also love dual perspectives and as expected, Chelle captured Roxanne’s voice as eloquently as Thomas’.
Thomas is lost, he’s stuck living undercover with the Sun Devils. When he first got in with the MC his job should’ve been an easy in and out. He’d get what he needed and get out, but time passes and now he’s in so deep he doesn’t know which side of the law he’s on anymore. The worst thing is he’s found the love of his life, but she’s in almost as deep as Thomas. Will living undercover as Blue taint him? What lengths will he go to protect the ones he loves? Will Roxanne and Thomas ever find a happily ever after?
I’m all about the buildup. I try not to give away too much in my reviews so I will maintain my pattern and simply say, I  loved this book. I love this series. I heart the Gallos and Thomas and Roxanne are characters you’ll want to know. They will make you fall in love with the Gallos all over again.  There is a good balance of action and suspense in this read, but Chelle’s steam factor is off the charts as always. Fun and sexy read. Thomas may be my favorite Gallo man thus far, but I have a feeling Anthony’s gonna win my heart! I definitely recommend this book to my Erotica and Contemporary Romance fans.

Review

Whoever decided to get Tarryn Fisher and Colleen Hoover together let me begin by saying…I adore you. These two brilliant authors created a masterpiece and I cannot wait for the next installment. Never Never is a fast-paced story that will both captivate and bewilder you. It will have you on the edge of your seat and as only could be expected by this evil (yet dynamic) duo your jaw will be hanging by the last page. I confess, I could not put it down. It is a short read, one that I absolutely devoured. I sat stunned in silence for long after reading the final page. I’m still sort of reflecting on what I read and although I have many suspicions I know with Colleen and Tarryn you never know what to expect. I loved everything about it, but these ladies killed me with the ending….I kind of expected it, maybe even appreciated it, but I’m seriously craving more! Don’t worry guys and gals, the ending isn’t bad, it’s actually a bit expected when it comes to these two authors. Let’s just say we’ll all be eagerly awaiting the next release date. Never Never will leave you utterly spellbound. The authors bring their unique writing styles together for a powerfully intense and gripping story. They will make you fall in love with their perfectly flawed characters. I don’t doubt the next installments will reveal some ugly secrets, but I know I’ll be rooting for Silas and Charlie until the end! I laughed, I swooned, I shrieked and gasped, but in the end I LOVED this book. Did I say that already? Sorry…if you would just go get a copy you’d understand why!!!

I don’t want to give away too much and unfortunately even getting into minor details about these characters makes me feel like I could kill the twists for you. I think I kinda loved how little I knew about the book going into it. The minute I received the word that the book had gone live I was One Clicking away! I had no clue what to expect, but from page one to the very end I L-O-V-E-D every minute of it!!! This book is an absolute MUST READ!!!! I have a feeling this series will be on my list of 2015 favorites. Comment with your thoughts, I’d love to hear from you.

Buy it, read it, love it, absorb it…spoon feed it to your babies, whatever 🙂
Happy Reading lovelies xo

After the Rain tore me up in the best way possible. Sexy, sweet, and sad…Nate and Avelina’s story is one that goes straight to my list of all-time favorites.”
–A.L. Jackson, New York Times bestselling author
In AFTER THE RAIN, eighteen-year-old Avelina Belo meets a charismatic cowboy the summer before her senior year of high school, not knowing that accepting his invitation to dinner will lead to a whirlwind marriage three months later and an exciting new life on a Montana ranch. She also doesn’t know that, in a few short years, fate will send everything crashing down around her.
A thousand miles away and fresh out of medical school, Nate Meyers is poised to become UCLA’s next superstar heart surgeon. His laser focus is the key to his success, but it’s also his greatest liability. When a routine surgery ends in disaster, derailing his career, he’s confronted with the hard truth: there’s no one waiting for him at home, no one to help him pick up the pieces.
Regrouping on his uncle’s Montana ranch, Nate meets Avelina, a beautiful, but mysterious young woman who keeps to herself and barely speaks a word. As he discovers the details of her devastating past, Avelina teaches him more about matters of the heart than he ever knew before. But can they trust each other enough to put everything on the line?

“No matter how devastating the storm may be, after the rain you’ll always find new life sprouting in the aftermath.”
To be completely honest with you all, I was a blubbering mess less than 20% into reading this book. I don’t even know how that’s possible, but one thing I am certain of is that Renée Carlino has solidified her place on my list of favorite authors.

I absolutely loved this book. I devoured it in a matter of hours. I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I repeat.  After the Rain is a tragic and beautiful story about love, loss and redemption.  It will take you on an emotional, often insightful journey. Renée Carlino writes beautifully. There is a depth to her characters that will leave you spellbound and utterly hopeful. She captures the voices of two shattered people who have lost their way and are trying to navigate the waters of life. Her delivery is absolutely flawless.

Avelina Belo has met unthinkable tragedies in her life. For someone so young her demons are heavy and have utterly dragged her into an abyss. She’s grown up quickly and the load she carries is heavy. She often punishes herself for actions that are beyond her control. Avelina’s life has become nothing, but a series of repeated tasks. She closes herself off to everyone, creating a lonely existence. It isn’t until Nate’s world collides with her own that she begins to see a life beyond the pain.

Nathaniel Meyer’s has had an easy and happy life for the most part. He’s followed in his father’s footsteps. After graduating medical school, he throws himself into his work focusing on becoming a great heart surgeon not realizing his confidence might be his greatest weakness. Nate’s desire to climb the ranks has left him lacking in areas that matter, like life experience, human contact and stopping to appreciate the world around him. After a disastrous day at work, Nate takes a much-needed break finding himself on the same ranch in Montana as Avelina. He’s curious about her and attempts to befriend her. Nate feels her turmoil almost instantaneously and aches to ease her pain, but how can he? She’s closed herself off to the world barely allowing anyone a glimpse into her life or her heart. Nate’s dealing with his own battles, but Avelina interests him and he doesn’t give up trying to break her from her shell.

These two can’t begin to imagine the impact they will have on one another. Hearts get involved; things get complicated, but is there any way each can mend their heart and find happiness in a world full of pain? After the Rain is an achingly beautiful story that is as unpredictable as it is gratifying. It will leave you guessing until the very last page. Avelina and Nate’s dual perspective gives this book a life of its own, one that you will step into, consume and cherish until the last page. I highly recommend this to all Contemporary Romance readers that like a deeply moving story with a dash of angst.

Book Review

*This was an ARC provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.*

Careful What You Wish For  is a sweet story about Harley Simpson, a woman who has been career driven and has little to show when it comes to relationships. She’s had a crush on her boss Ethan since she laid eyes on him and has been secretly pining for him. She becomes a fumbling mess when he’s around and can’t help, but daydream of him and their happily ever after. One day after landing a project at work she heads to a bar for a girls night out. On her way out to catch a cab she has run in with Ethan and is left a bit out of sorts. The cabbie seems interested in her life and what she wants. After a brief talk she admits some of her desires especially about her boss. The cabbie wishes her well and she spends a night out with the girls. After one too many drinks, Harley heads home, but when she awakens the next morning she’s not exactly in Kansas anymore.

She has somehow stepped into a new life with Ethan as her husband and two daughters she doesn’t remember having. Terrified and confused, Harley wants nothing more than her old life back, but is it that simple now that she’s got everything she’s ever wanted? And is everything she ever wanted truly the best thing for her? Careful What You Wish For, Harley, you just might get it…

To be honest I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had never read any of the authors earlier works so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it is a quick and enjoyable read that you will likely finish in one setting. I actually emailed the author to tell her I put my life on hold to finish the book because I got so into it. It’s also a very funny read. I think most people still enjoy the magic of fairy tales so this, to me, is a charming adult read with a magical twist. It makes you think about all the things you’ve ever desired and how right they may have seemed in your mind until you actually get them. It’s kind of like the adage, “the grass is greener on the other side”…or is it really? Harley’s biggest obstacle will be realizing if this reality meant for her or one better left unexplored. The ending is perfect. I’d definitely recommend this book to romance readers. This is also a great beach read. Check it out and let me know your thoughts!

I am a stay at home mom to two wild and crazy kids. I started writing when my husband suggested instead of waiting around for books – create my own. They shared an amazing summer and, despite living miles apart, Kyle felt sure they had a future.
Until she vanished without a trace.
Where did she go? How could she disappear without saying a word? Was everything between them a lie? Unable to answer his own questions, Kyle had no choice other than to bury his memories and move on with his life. Little does he know it is about to be revealed.

Book Review

This book review is long over due so I must apologize to you all and to Sara Mack because I’ve held it in the stash for far too long. This book is truly amazing. For those of you who are familiar with Sara Mack’s Guardian trilogy this work is unlike her earlier books, Sparrow took a completely different direction. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I was completely blown away. It is incredibly difficult to write this review without giving too much of the story away. Sparrow is a standalone contemporary romance/new adult novel very different from the paranormal Guardian trilogy. However, this book displays Sara Mack’s multifaceted talent as a writer. I fell in love with this story and absorbed it like a sponge.  This book makes you feel, it makes you ache for a love that comes along once in a lifetime. It makes you question every obstacle, every situation and every path you take to find your way along life’s often confusing journey. It makes you believe in a love that is so powerful it can withstand the test of time.

Kyle and Addison meet while they are teenagers at Buhl Lake. They are inseparable and develop a bond that seems unbreakable. The love these two have for one another as teenagers is incredibly moving. We watch the love between these two grow and expect a promising future.  But then Addison disappears without a trace and Kyle is devastated…I was devastated. How could she vanish? Eight years later Kyle finally learns the truth, but can he deal with the many challenges life has thrown his way and will he be able to forgive, move forward, and most of all find happiness.
Kyle is an incredibly complex character. His story is often painful and you feel for him as though you are experiencing his loss, his pain, his love. His struggles and those of the other characters are often things someone can relate to in one way or another. I loved the way the story grabbed the reader’s attention and at times had you holding your breath. I feel such a strong love for Kyle and I loved that the book is in his POV. I mean come on who doesn’t love a good male protagonist? Although I’d love to delve into my feelings on Addison I’ll leave it up to you to decide how you feel about her. My fear is that if I did there would just be too much to give away, let’s just say I did ultimately love her character, she struggled as much as Kyle, but her battles were different in some ways. I’d love to read her perspective on many of the events that occurred in Sparrow. That would be interesting…wink, wink SARA….Ahem, not pressuring you or anything haha.

What I truly loved about this book is that the characters have depth, you can relate to them and you take the emotional journey with them.  You will find yourself hopeful that things will find a way to right themselves. It also makes you think, I mean serious life altering thoughts. I found myself wondering what I would do if I were in Kyle’s shoes or Addison’s, for that matter. Sparrow is well written and Sara Mack intrigues you with complex issues coupled with raw emotions and unpredictable outcomes. This is a beautiful story and I highly recommend this book to all readers. You won’t regret it.

Book Review: Locke (Corps Security #5) by Harper Sloan

locke
Blurb
Darkness is the only thing I see. Ever since the day my life changed. The day that everything and everyone I held close to me ceased to exist. The day I lost it all and the demons of my past consumed my every waking moment.

I tried to keep others at arm’s length. Tried not to let my darkness taint them. Ruin them. Harm them. And whether I want to admit it or not, as much as I wish I could keep them locked out, they refuse to leave. Refuse to let me suffer alone.

If I hadn’t been so focused on keeping those demons from flying free, I wouldn’t have missed how one perfect angel was able to sneak her way under my skin—refusing to let go. Making me want things I don’t deserve.

She consumes me. Her beauty knows no end. The love she promises tempts me every time she’s near. But that pure heart that makes her MY Emmy is the one thing I’m convinced I’ll destroy if I ever let her close.

I’m a broken man. A broken man with too much darkness in his soul to ever let her light shine upon me. But even that doesn’t stop me from craving her with every single breath in my body.

**This is the final book in the Corps Security series. This book is not suitable for younger readers. There is strong language, adult situations, and some violence.*

Review

Locke, the fifth and final book in the Corps Security series is probably my favorite. I’ll be honest when Harper Sloan released Axel I was hooked, I never imagined the book I’d fallen in love with would become a series of 5 books that I’d ultimately swoon over. My curiosity about Maddox Locke only grew with each book release…something about him just made me want to know more. I’ll admit all the books in the series at some point brought me to tears and I just want to reiterate as I do whenever I mention the waterworks that this is no easy task. I can only name a handful of authors that have successfully brought my emotionless ass to tears. I don’t know that I would recommend reading these books as a standalone because I feel like you need to experience all their journeys in order to fully appreciate each book individually. You need to see what each person has endured and how each character plays a role in their happiness. I urge you to read this series in order! If you have never read any of the Corps Security books…shame on you go on and buy them now. If you’re with me and have read all or close to all then you can agree Harper knows how to write one hell of a book. This is, as with most of my reviews spoiler free.

Maddox Locke has lived with some demons, his scars run deep. He is shackled by the chains of his past and pulled himself so far down he doesn’t know how to get back up. He’s managed to deal with his pain by never allows anyone completely in. He’s become an expert at hiding his emotions. The only person who has ever been able to slightly scratch the surface is Emmy. Something about beautiful, sweet Emmy touches him deep to his soul. He cares for her deeply, but Maddox refuses to acknowledge or act on his feelings. They have an intense connection and longstanding history. Emmy’s patience and undying loyalty to Locke is admirable, but even I got frustrated for her. How much rejection can one person take before it’s just too much. I don’t want to spoil any of the books for you so I’ll just say this one picks up close to where we left off, but also delves into Locke and Emmy’s past so we get to understand their upbringing and their struggles. Emmy went through so much and she is one tough as nails chick. She’s probably my absolute favorite alpha chick. She’s pretty bad ass.
Locke’s story is one that will cut deep and break your heart, but Emmy’s story is one you’d never imagine. These two have both suffered. They’ve endured pain, loss and betrayal like you wouldn’t believe. Harper Sloan has a way of shocking you, touching you and making you whole all in the same chapter. Her stories are raw, intense, passion filled and deeply personal. The family she’s created through the corps security series is one that makes you wish you had the kind of support these characters provide one another. They are a family and although they have all gone through their share of struggles they are always there for each other through the good, bad and ugly.

Locke has kept everyone at an arms length for as long as we’ve known him. Briefly we get a glimpse of some emotion, but those moments have been few and far between. We know how much he cares whenever we hear his brief, but powerful advice. He’s unknowingly been a rock to everyone around him and getting to hear his story is one that will touch you and make you hope beyond hope that these two finally gets their happily ever after. This book is incredible. I loved every minute of it, there are some pretty fucked up moments, but overall everything they endure makes their bond stronger and this book and the series is well worth the read.

I don’t really know how else to say this is an awesome book without giving much away so I’ll just say this is an awesome book and a great conclusion to the series. The best thing about it is Harper has opened the way for a couple more stories to be told in what I’m hoping may be a new series or a few novellas in the works? At least I’m hoping that is the case haha…either way, these books have weaved their way into my heart and will forever have a place there.

I’d highly recommend this book and the series to any Contemporary Romance/Military Romance fans.

About the Author:
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed ‘Estrogen Ocean’, much to her husbands chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero–the super alpha kind!
Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn’t take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
