ABOUT LOVING CARA:

CHEMISTRY WAS NEVER THIS SEXY IN HIGH SCHOOL.

In her sizzling new series, USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby sets the stage for a passionate reunion under the breathtaking Montana sky.
Cara Donovan’s summer tutoring job is turning out to be a challenge—and not just because of her troubled twelve-year-old student. It’s his uncle Josh who’s the real problem. If problem is the word for an irresistibly cocky, muscle-bound rancher with a taste for tight Levi’s and shameless flirtation. . . .
Cara is nothing like the wallflower Josh King remembers good-naturedly teasing in high school. This Cara is gorgeous, confident, fun. From the moment the fiery teacher steps foot on his family’s Lazy K Ranch, the stubborn playboy is determined to corral her. So what happens when his luscious lover takes over the reins?
The first in a steamy trilogy, Kristen Proby’s enthralling novel is filled to the brim with one hardworking family’s triumphs and challenges, all the wild adventure of the modern West, and a whole lot of titillating fun.

EXCERPT:

“Where are your jeans?” Josh asks as he meets me at my car the following morning.
“These are jeans.” I pull my tote bag out of the car and walk toward the front door of his house. “Is Seth here yet?”
“No, he’ll be a few minutes. I have him feeding the dogs at the big house.”
“Okay.”
“Those are not jeans.” He’s scowling down at my denim shorts like they’re the devil incarnate.
“They’re denim.”
He narrows his chocolate eyes at me, but I see the humor there, and the butterflies take up residence in my belly again.
I love riling this guy up.
“Fine, they’ll have to do. Go ahead and get settled, Seth will be here in a minute. I have to ride out with a few of the guys to repair a fence, so I’ll see you at lunch time.” He pulls on some gloves and settles his green baseball cap on his head backwards again.
“You don’t wear cowboy hats?” I ask without thinking.
“Not usually. I have one, if you’d rather I wear it.” He smirks.
“No, just curious,” I mumble and head toward the house.
“Don’t leave before I get back. I have plans for you.”
He grins wide, winks, and saunters off toward the massive barn that sits between his house and the big house.
Well, isn’t that view nice? His Levi’s hug his ass perfectly and sit low on his hips, and as he walks I can see his buttocks and thighs flex.
Dear God, I’m lusting after a rancher.”

The Devil’s Tattoo

(18+ due to adult themes, sex scenes and coarse language)
Release date: September 1, 2013
Cover Design by: Paper and Sage Designs

Synopsis

Zoe Granger picked up her first guitar the day her heart was smashed into a billion pieces. It was a way to keep her mind off her inevitable downward spiral, but music soon became her escape. She’s been burned too many times to tell and is just happy to coast through life, never putting herself out there. That’s until her best friend Dee suggests they start a band and suddenly she finds herself not just a part of it, but fronting the whole outfit.

They call themselves The Devil’s Tattoo and when they release their debut EP, it rockets to the top of the charts and it’s like an overnight fairytale. Contracts, photo shoots, royalties and interviews are heaped onto the shy Zoe and it’s like she’s finally found her place. Then comes the phone call that changes everything. They’ve been asked to co-headline a tour with one of the hottest bands of the moment, The Stabs and Zoe will never be the same again.

Will Strickland is one fourth of the hottest indie rock band to ever grace the airwaves. He’s the bass player in The Stabs, hot as hell and could have his pick of any girl that flings herself at him. The Devil’s Tattoo and The Stabs go on the road and it’s either going to be a highway to hell or a stairway to heaven. Only time will tell who will come out on top and Zoe’s determined to do it without getting her heart broken… again.

Excerpt

Dee pulled out another notebook from his bag and tossed it to me. “Write the lyrics.”
I look at the empty notebook and Dee’s tattered one that’s full of ideas and marks and don’t know where to start. I try not to think about it too much as I grab a pen and write out the music best I can. It’s already there, I just have to translate it into something coherent. But, when it comes to the words, I see what Dee’s written and it could be a song for me. No wonder he wants me to change it. He wants the song to be from me, instead. My side of the story.
The couch dipped next to me and Dee stuck his head over my shoulder to see what I’m writing. I pressed the notebook into my chest and he tried to snatch it away.
“Hey,” I cried. “I like you and all Dee, but stop trying to feel me up.”
His lips curved into a sly smile and he knew that I was onto him and for once I don’t argue.
“What are we gunna call ourselves?” Frank asked. Before Chris could open his mouth he added, “No ideas accepted form Chris.”
“Why not?” he grumbled.
“We’re not into Morrissey,” Dee laughed.
“I think Empty Hands is a good name for an indie band,” I said kindly.
“Thanks, Zoe,” Chris smiled and tapped his bottle against mine.
“We’re not a pansy mopey indie band,” Frank said and beat on his chest. “I want to beat the shit outta those skins, for one. I’m too manly to get in touch with my feminine side.”
Dee’s watching me with a frown and I realize I’ve been running a finger along the scar on my arm.
“Tattoo,” he said, his eyes meeting mine.
“What?” I jumped and tucked my hands under my legs.
“Tattoo,” he said again and I could almost see the light bulb over his head. “The Devil’s Tattoo.”
As soon as he says it, I knew he wanted to name the band after me. I can’t help but wonder who the devil is meant to be. The devil scarred my arm and I covered it with a tattoo.
“Dee,” I began to scold him.
“Bloody LOVE IT,” Frank shouted, on his feet.
“It’s not like that, Zoe,” Dee whispered in my ear. “You’re my phoenix from the ashes. You’re my version of the devil, babe.”
It sounded like he was declaring his love for me and in a way he was, but not like that. Dee’s my brother. Dee’s my family.
I smiled at him. “The Devil’s Tattoo.”
“All in favor?” Dee asked, but it’s already been decided.
“Hell yeah!” everyone shouted, and it’s done.

The League of Skull & Bones, Book 1 of The Grimm Chronicles

______________________________________________
Prologue
I wasn’t alone in the dark.
Snarls and growls surrounded me, running my blood cold. I moved my head from side to
side, scrunching my eyes, trying desperately to catch sight of the beasts before they reached me.
My crimson swords weighed so heavily in my hands that I felt as if I’d been fighting for what
seemed like eternity.
Claws and fangs suddenly slashed out from the darkness and I did my best to defend
myself, though in my heart I knew it was a losing battle. The beasts were overpowering me and
soon I wouldn’t be able to stop them. No one was coming to save me. I was alone.
Talons slashed across my back and warm blood trickled down as pain shot across my
spine. I stumbled and the beasts—I was sure—tasted victory. They moved in at me in waves. I
spun my blades trying to battle the never-ending tide, trying to survive.
It was hopeless. For every monster I took down, another two took its place. I wanted to
live, I wanted to fight, but the agonizing pain of my flesh being torn and sliced was too great to
bear. I couldn’t go on. The jaws of one of the beasts clamped on my wrist, and I lost my grip on
one of my swords. It fell from my hand and clattered to the ground and with it went my last
vestige of hope.
Blood drained from my body and my vision faded. I would soon black out, and then the
beasts would feast on me. A scream bubbled in my throat and my mouth fell open, but no sounds
came out. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see my own death and hoped that darkness would
take me before the beasts did.
I bolted out of bed, my mouth still open in a silent scream, and my sheets tangled around
me soaked with sweat. I stood at the foot of my bed, my breathing coming in ragged gasps.
The nightmares came almost every night. I couldn’t escape them no matter how hard I
tried. I yanked at the sheets, dragging them off me and tossing them back onto the bed.
I’d worn only an old t-shirt to bed, though now I wished I had worn more. I didn’t want
to see my scars, didn’t want to be reminded yet again, but I couldn’t stop my fingers from tracing
over the ugly scars that marked my arms and upper torso.
I walked from the top floor of my loft, down the stainless steel steps to the kitchen area. I
yanked open the fridge and grabbed the container of milk and took a gulp. I placed it back in the
fridge and slammed the door closed. I slipped down onto the couch that faced the large windows
dotting the walls of my loft and sighed at the breathtaking view of Paris. It always calmed me.
My fingers mindlessly drifted over the scars on my arms. They were a reminder of the
very real night I had been trapped in a nearly unwinnable fight. Monsters had surrounded me and
had almost killed me. If it hadn’t been for my friends, I would have died.
But I hadn’t died, or had I? I was far from the girl I had once been. Once I was the
prettiest girl in school, and the girl who had hit every club and had had a blast when she had
moved to Paris. But after the vicious attack everything had changed, most of all me.
My fingers suddenly stopped, settling on the edges of identical tattoos on both my
forearms. I glanced down at the image of a Skeleton Key. My scars refused to cross paths with
the tattoos, as if they knew that they dared not go near them.
I slid my finger over the tattoo, and felt a buzz of power run through me. These unwanted
tattoos were another reminder of something else entirely. But unlike my scars, I had chosen
these.
The monsters may not have gotten me, but these tattoos were a different matter. They
marked me for death.
I pulled my knees up into my chest and took a deep breath. Maybe I would wait here until
dawn. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about any more nightmares or death that constantly stalked
me.
I sat alone in the dark looking out on the City of Lights, awaiting the dawn and praying
that I could keep death at bay and that I wouldn’t hear the sound of monsters.
